Household Recycling Centres

We operate five recycling facilities offering waste management solutions and recycling throughout Powys for all your household and gardening waste. They are located in Welshpool, Newtown, Llandrindod Wells, Brecon and Ystradgynlais.

Our recycling centres accept all types of waste including cans, glass, paper and cardboard, plastics, metals, scrap wood and furniture, textiles, printer cartridges, fridges, washing machines and cookers, mobile phones, motor oil, bicycles, DIY materials, soil and rubble.

Local Authority residents transporting household and garden waste by car can simply bring their items to their local recycling point, while van and commercial vehicle users can visit their Local Authority website for more information on arranging a CVT permit for transporting domestic items to the sites. Trade customers are welcome at our Welshpool transfer station.

Please note that users at all our household recycling facilities must sort waste for recycling on site before putting items into designated containers. Householders may be asked to produce proof of their address before depositing materials.

Welshpool Recycling Facility

Our Welshpool recycling facility is located at Potters Yard, Severn Road, Welshpool SY21 7YE. We’re open Wednesday to Friday from 9am to 5pm, and Saturday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm. We close on Mondays and Tuesdays, as well as Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Newtown Recycling Facility

Our Newtown recycling facility is located at Potters Recycling, Dyffryn Industrial Estate, Pool Road, Newtown SY16 3BD. We’re open Monday to Wednesday from 9am to 5pm, and Saturday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm. We close on Thursdays and Fridays, as well as Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Llandrindod Wells Recycling Facility

Our Llandrindod Wells recycling facility is located at the Household Waste Recycling Centre, Waterloo Road Industrial Estate, Llandrindod Wells, Powys LD1 6BH. We’re open Wednesday to Friday from 9am to 5pm, and Saturday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm. We close on Mondays and Tuesdays, as well as Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Brecon Recycling Facility

Our Brecon recycling facility is located at the Household Waste Recycling Centre, Ffrwdgrech Industrial Estate, Brecon LD3 8LA. We’re open Monday to Wednesday from 9am to 5pm, and Saturday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm. We close on Thursdays and Fridays, as well as Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Ystradgynlais Recycling Facility

Our Ystradgynlais recycling facility is located at the Household Waste Recycling Centre, Lower Cwmtwrch, Bethel Road, Ystradgynlais SA9 2HW. We’re open on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9am to 5pm, and Saturday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm. We close on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, as well as Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Trade Waste Collections

Our waste management service for trade customers in Wales and the West Midlands is provided by our joint venture partner company, Gaskells Waste Services. Via their Midlands and North West-based operations, Gaskells collect, transport and process all types of commercial waste for customers in Shropshire, Mid Wales, North Wales and Anglesey.

Gaskells support a full range of industries and sectors, ranging from retail and manufacturing to hospitality and services, as well as servicing schools and managing events.

Carpet Recycling

Potter Group uses advanced technologies and equipment to process recycled synthetic carpet materials into high-performance equestrian surfaces that can be used in all weathers.

This initiative is helping to make a significant contribution to reducing the 400,000 tonnes of carpet waste created annually in the UK, and provides an innovative equestrian product that offers substantial benefits for both the horse and rider.

Scrap Metal

As an independent scrap metal recycler servicing Wales and the Welsh Borders, Potter Group offer highly competitive prices for all grades of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

We accept products such as mild steel, high-speed steel, stainless steel and high tensile steel, as well as cast iron, copper, lead, batteries, aluminium grades, brass, phosphor bronze, gun metal, alloys and electrical cables.

Potter Group also accept vehicles for recycling in compliance with the European Union De-Pollution directive, in addition to providing a caravan disposal service for both tourer and static vans. Disposal costs and current scrap metal prices are available on request.

Skip Hire

The Group operates the largest skip hire facility in the Powys and Shropshire areas, serving domestic and commercial skip hire customers across Wales and West Midlands.

From our licensed waste management site in Welshpool, we provide a choice of over 200 roll-on roll-off skips, ranging in capacity from 10 to 40 cubic yards.

We can advise you on selecting the most suitable skip for your needs, whether you’re looking to clear out household and garden waste or remove large volumes of recycling or heavy waste from industrial operations.

For commercial customers, we provide a full audit trail and manage all waste documentation from our licensed premises here in Welshpool. For skips required on a road or public highway, we can also help to arrange a Public Highways Permit for you.

Landfill Sites

With a growing number of local authorities, businesses and householders seeking more sustainable solutions from waste products, Potter Group are proud to be at the forefront of recycling innovation.

We operate two landfill sites located at Bryn Posteg in Llandidloes and Granville in Telford.

Our sites process residual waste which can’t be directly recycled, composted or reused, where it is carefully contained and recovered into renewable electricity.

Our landfill facilities are closely monitored by Natural Resources Wales, and the Environment Agency.

Transfer Station

Our waste transfer station in Welshpool is recognized by national companies such as Veolia and Biffa Waste, and offers recycling facilities for businesses and private customers across Powys and the Shropshire borders.

We are licensed to process a wide variety of non-hazardous and hazardous waste, including glass, paper, cardboard, timber, garden waste, household waste, demolition waste, commercial waste, general waste and vehicles, as well as bonded asbestos, tyres, electrical items, plastic products and polythene.

Public Weighbridge

Potter Group operates a fully calibrated, electronic public weighbridge at our site on Henfaes Lane in Welshpool.

The weighbridge is available for all vehicles of up to 60 tonnes - including caravans, motor homes, coaches and mini buses, as well as haulage vehicles transporting livestock loads or commercial products.
